Rare Kosta Art Glass Amethyst Uranium Swung Basket Vicke Lindstrand Sommerso

Description

This stunning and rare vintage amethyst swung art glass basket is attributed to Vicke Lindstrand for Kosta Sweden, dating to the mid-20th century. The piece features a sommerso technique with a deep smoky amethyst core encased in thick clear lead glass. The glass (handles included) contains uranium oxide which creates a vivid neon green fluorescence under 395nm ultraviolet light. The design is characterized by a hand-pulled swing handle and a teardrop silhouette with a professionally polished flat, unsigned base.

​The basket is in good vintage condition with noted wear. There is one small flea bite on the edge of the handle. The body exhibits noticeable surface scratches and scuffs from age and handling (please see close-up photos). The glass contains internal seeds which are artifacts of the hand-blowing process. There are no cracks, chips, or repairs.
