“A Rehaussé Main Limoges box signifies an authentic French porcelain piece that is partially hand-painted and enhanced by hand, combining transferred decals with artistic hand-painted detailing. It bridges the gap between fully painted (Peint Main) and entirely decal-decorated items, featuring hand-painted enhancements over the transfer to create a high-quality three-dimensional effect.
The base design is applied using a decal or transfer, but artisans add hand-painted strokes to elevate the detail and add vibrancy.
“Rehaussé\” translates to \”raised\” or \”enhanced,\” often indicating that the painted details have a slightly raised, tactile quality when felt.
These boxes are marked “Rehaussé Main” (or \”Rehausse a la Main\”) on the bottom, indicating they are not 100% hand-painted but are hand-decorated to a significant degree.”
